Been working on a long poem (A Shadow of Atlantis) off and on for the last 27 years in a sort of patchwork fashion, composing different pieces of it at different times. It's my poetic white whale. Since it's going to be thousands of lines when finished, if I'm ever able to pull it together, this seemed the best approach. Today I found and finished a stanza I started 20 years ago from the first book of the poem entitled, The Loss of Innocence. If you've ever wanted to see a stanza of poetry 20 years in the making, this is it!

At the beginning, to be sure, my lost land
A gossamer thing, sheer and sparkling white
It seems to me, I never knew its ways
When as a child, I first stepped out upon
Its fecund fields of tamaranth and leel
Yield me now the thoughts of your mother’s bosom
Folded in the glows of memories past
Such were all those paths of dream-like wonder
Wonder in the smallest petal’s passing
Wonder in the mountain and the star
Wonder in the silence and the jesting
That from on far would bring the lyric music
Of waves and winding starling, thrush and sparrow
